Ice House partnered with Signature Creative and Qualcomm to build the Star Trek: Into The Darkness movie app. It is the first context aware movie app and incorporates the latest cutting‐edge technology; gamification, geo‐fencing, augmented reality, image and audio recognition technologies. Ice House incorporated the Gimbal SDK from Qualcomm Retail Solutions so that users can engage with movie related materials by utilizing their real life surroundings to auto‐complete integrated missions, gain higher ranks and unlock exclusive content. Paramount gains insight into the Star Trek Fan base and is able to promote the movie, video and merchandise.
Paramount Pictures and Ice House collaborated to develop a mobile application using breakthrough technologies with the objective of improving user engagement leading up to the launch of Paramount’s 2013 blockbuster, Star Trek: Into Darkness. through the app, users are invited to experience exclusive access to content through a series of missions involving breakthrough augmented reality technologies. The missions involve things like virtual scavenger hunts where users can scan photos or other imagery, use audio, or are location aware. These use the latest tech from Qualcomm, such as the Qualcomm Labs’ Gimbal platform and Qualcomm Vuforia augmented reality tool.
The Start Trek App is one of the first commercially released app to use these platforms. These cutting-edge technologies are being showcased in a never before-seen way and will enable users to automatically engage with a wealth of movie related materials by utilizing their real-life surroundings by employing audio scan, geo-location recognition, and image recognition functionality powered by Qualcomm Vufori In addition, users can access the latest news about the upcoming film, and have assets like video, wallpapers, and images delivered directly to their mobile device.
